Big Buck Country 98.1, also known as Guerra Communications, worked with Harmony schools as a motivational speaker during STAAR testing.
Encarnacion Arevalo Guerra better known as “Carny” a self employed businessman from Saginaw, Michigan found his way to Laredo, Texas with his newly wedded wife- Emma Flores Guerra.
In 1971, Carny purchased the Bowl-A-Rama and converted it into the “CASA BLANCA BALLROOM”, which has become a LANDMARK and has hosted many important events in Laredo for almost 40 years.
In 1978, they purchased their first radio station in Nuevo Laredo and named it “RADIO CANON”; they went on to purchase and share holdings in 7 radio stations in Mexico into the 80's when they sold their holdings and decided to retire.
In 1987, the Guerra’s came out of their short retirement and purchased 3 new radio stations, Z-93FM Tejano Station, Energy 98, now known as “ Big Buck Country” and K-Onda in Corpus Christi, now known as “The Bomb” along with the Yellow Rose Ballroom in Corpus Christi.
Guerra Communications is locally owned and operated, with a mission to serve the large Hispanic audience in South Texas and Northern Mexico.
